Check the condition of your installation
Before selecting your motor, a survey is needed. First, ensure that your gate is operating smoothly, it is properly balanced, that the material and construction of your gate is suitable for a gate motor to be fixed to the frame and that you have a power supply within 300 metres.

Identify your gate type
To each gate its motor... There are two categories of gates based on their mode of opening and closing.

Swing gates
These gates, comprising two leaves, can be equipped with several motor types depending on your constraints. Motors with arms, like SGA or Evolvia, have the advantage of opening fast and minimising the stress on the structure. They are especially recommended for fragile gates (PVC, wood, etc.). Cylinder motors (worm screw), like Ixengo, SGS or Exavia, more suited to heavy structures and reduced spaces or those exposed to wind. If you are looking for a more discrete opion, you can go for integrated motors, which are installed directly inside the gate, or buried underground.

Sliding gates
Very practical to save space and for the entrances at the side of the road, sliding gates are equipped with a self-supporting or guided rack motorisation (Freevia, Slidymoove, Elixo, etc.).
You then need to measure your installation: width, height and weight of the leaves, corner pieces, offset of the hinges…all crucial elements in the selection of the motor.

Select the optimum automation technology
While selecting the technology of your motor, think carefully. Do you have any future motorisation needs?You can in fact pick between two wireless (radio) technologies to automate your gate. The RTS (Radio Technology Somfy) technology is exclusive to Somfy products and is easy for you to install  by yourself. This solution is recommended when you have low numbers of gates to be motorised.
